A Little Birdie Told Us
"The birds all came and posed for us. We saw a multitude of flamencos, white pelicans, warbler, skimmers, crowned terns, roseated spoonbills and many many more. Allison and Arturo were very personable and very attentive to make sure we all were able to spot the birds. It was a fun and educational experience."

Tour Overview
The trip takes us to beyond the town limits of Progreso, the port city due north of Mérida. Tucked away off the small costera highway are trails surrounded by marsh and mangroves on both sides, offering a wide-reaching view across the placid water. The sunrise bathes the landscape in golden light, silhouetting the herons, egrets and other waterbirds as they search for food. Flamingos are common visitors here, along with frigate birds, black-necked stilts, melodious blackbirds, and many others. As the sun continues to rise we walk along the mangrove path, searching for clapper rails, mangrove warblers and kingfishers. Following the path to its end, we return to the trailhead for snacks in the shade before the sun gets too high overhead.
