A Little Birdie Told Us

Tour Overview
Departing in the mid-afternoon, we travel north and west along the Yucatán coast. Along the way to the playón de Chuburná we make a few stops at local birding spots in the beach town of Chelem, looking for pelicans, herons, gulls and terns. On the playón we often see plovers, sandpipers, whimbrels and godwits, and walking through the path of the nearby dunes we listen for northern cardinals, Yucatán wrens and black-throated bobwhites. As the sun begins to set we drive to a vantage point that overlooks the wide-reaching marsh and mangroves. Flamingoes and roseate spoonbills often fly overhead as they travel to their roosting spots in the light of the final rays of sun.
